I haven't visited any other locations, but was lucky enough for my friend to bring over Menudo and Barbacoa for breakfast. Menudo is authentic and has great flavor, accompanied by a large amount of warm corn tortillas, limes, diced onions and jalapeños. Barbacoa is delicious, accompanied by finely chopped slaw with cilantro, and red spicy sauce.

My favorite breakfast place in Laredo! The prices are great and the food authentic Mexican. I love the Huevos Rancheros with beans, tortillas and a dollop of barbacoa. They also serve a small dish of 'verdura' which is shredded raw cabbage, cilantro and a touch of serrano pepper, along with tiny fresh lime halves to squeeze over it. Awesome!! Service fairly good. The dining area is basic and a bit beat-up but that just fit with the whole ambience. They do a brisk carryout business and often have lines of people waiting to pick up 'to go' orders, especially on the weekends. The next time I'm in Laredo, I will definitely go back to Lira's Restaurant again!!

Hot damn! The salsa roja aqui..... holy chit. Took me like 15 minutes to recover from. I'll open with that and then backtrack a little bit. My buddy and I were in town for work and wanted to find some amazing food... so we drove down the street and decided to pick a place at random. Well, this place kinda chose us, as we were stuck on the street for a few minutes as people literally blocked traffic to get parking spaces. While waiting we noticed people were literally walking up to a window and getting take out orders without even entering the restaurant... this definitely piqued our interest. We found a parking spot around the block, walked up, and sat down at literally the only open table. I opened yelp and was excited about the reviews for this joint. We ordered some barbacoa tacos (be aware, you need a little bit of Spanish in here), and kicked it for a little bit while watching people pile in and out of the place. The tacos were small- not in a negative way, just not sized like the ones fat-shit San Antonians generally eat, but just like regular sized tacos. I got 3 barbacoa and my homies got 1 barbacoa and 1 picadillo. He said the picadillo was good but barbacoa was better. I felt like this was some of the best barbacoa I had experienced. There were only about 2 drops of grease on my plate from each taco Rather than a whole lake of fat like some places. Tacos come plain but our waitress brought out a bowl of cilantro, onion, lime, and a few other veggies to add. The green salsa was live but not overwhelming, and as I said before that red will burn a guerro up. The second I put it on my taco and saw that orangey roasted look, I knew I was in for a heaven and hell mix and boy was I right. I was standing in line to pay my ticket by the time I cooled down. This was just the meal we needed in just the right place... can't wait to come back here next time I visit.

Authentic Mexican breakfast. The owner rings you up and chats with you- the barbacoa has been his recipe for 30 years!! And it's delicious. I don't think I'd ever tried barbacoa before, but I have some pretty high expectations now thanks to Lira's. I was a little skeptical when the description on my scrambled eggs said it was made with "dried beef," but I'm glad I got it! The egg is fried with chopped pepper, onion, tomato, and that dried beef deliciousness. It's actually kind of a misnomer, the dried beef being more like pulled beef, pretty juicy and rich. I actually got a licuado, also. I mixed papaya and mango. The portion is huge! So yummy. Get one if you've never tried it before. 4 stars because the bathroom was a small struggle. Pro-tip: use the bucket under the sink to fully flush the contents of the toilet down the drain when you press the handle down, because the handle itself does not have enough pressure to flush anything.

Love the Barbacoa. Best ever. Too bad I live in California, otherwise I would eat here every day.
